At a Wednesday fundraiser, President Obama praised ABC’s Scandal, but added he doesn’t want to be “living it out.”
Obama used the popular political thriller to speak about Washington at the home of Scandal creator Shonda Rimes, the host of the fundraising event.
As reported by UPI, Obama told the crowd, “No offense, Scandal is a great show, but it’s not necessarily something we want to be living out.”
Obama also tore into the Republicans, blaming them for the current level of dysfunction in the government and accusing the party of being “taken over by people who just don’t believe in government,” adding that they “obfuscate and they bamboozle and sometimes don’t say what’s true — that was a euphemism.”
The president went on to blame lack of voter turnout for the last midterms and encouraged people to get out and vote later this year: “What happened to Nancy Pelosi?” Obama said. “What happened is y’all didn’t vote. And that’s when all kinds of …stuff happened. That’s what it was, stuff.”
Obama concluded his remarks by noting that “Sometimes in life, as well as politics, we don’t get 100 percent of what we want right away,” adding that he doesn’t tell his daughters “you should quit” when they hit an obstacle.
“I’ve got two years left in this presidency, I want to get a whole bunch of stuff done,” Obama finished.
