‘Why did you have to shoot him?’ Girl, 9, Writes To Cop Who Killed Her Unarmed Father

The 9-year-old daughter of an unarmed black male who was shot and killed by a white police officer has written a letter to that Phoenix cop.

As The Free Thought Project reports, “Tuesday night, 34-year-old Rumain Brisbon was shot and killed by a police officer, because the officer mistakenly thought that he was carrying a gun.”

The father of four, Brisbon’s 9-year-old daughter Aiyana wrote a heartbreaking letter to the police officer who shot and killed her father.

Aiyana began her letter writing: “To the officer who killed my dad, let me tell you something – you [hurt] three little girls that look up to their dad.”

Did you ever think if he had kids, people important in his life? Now he won’t be here for any important moments in our life.

In her heartbreaking letter, Aiyana questions the need for the shooting that ended her life and asks if it had to do with race:

Why did you have to shoot him two time in the back? Did you have to shoot? You could have tazed him, arrested him, chased him – but not shoot him.

Why did you kill him? [Was it] because my dad is black and you’re white?

You can read a transcript of her letter, below, with the spelling and grammatical errors corrected for ease of reading.

TRANSCRIPT:

To the officer who killed my dad, let me tell you something – you [hurt] three little girls that look up to their dad.”

You took his life from us. Did you ever think if he had kids, people important in his life? Now he won’t be here for any important moments in our life.

He has me, my name is Aiyana. I’m nine years old and my birthday is December the 23rd. He is not going to be there for that birthday.

He has a girl named Serenity. She’s ten and her birthday is November the 7th. He’s not going to be there for that. He has a girl, her name is Skylar. She’s one; her birthday is May the 12th. He’s not going to be here to see the happiness of us and that’s sad.

He’s not going to see his little girls grow up.

Why did you have to shoot him two time in the back? Did you have to shoot? You could have tazed him, arrested him, chased him – but not shoot him.

Why did you kill him? [Was it] because my dad is black and you’re white? I swear if it was the other way around, you wouldn’t want my dad to kill you.

Remember, words speak louder than actions. Ask yourself, did you have to use a gun? Keep that in mind.

If you had kids and my dad shot you, your kids would be hurt. Did you stop and think? No. Now me and the people who love my dad are heartbroken.

It’s going to be up to my dad’s older kids to keep my dad’s name alive. We have to tell Skylar about my dad and how he was a great man and father. All because of you.

Now we’re going to do everything to get my dad justice. My dad is in a better place.

Yeah, it is going to be hard to know my dead is dead because my parents are the best thing that happened to me.

I’m hurting, but I have to stay strong for my dad and my little sister. Just keep that in mind that you took a good man’s life.

You made the wrong choice because my dad is the one who kept me and my sister together.

So not thanks a lot.
