Dad, you’re embarrassing me. Family drama erupts on Twitter between House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte and his son.
Quartz reported on Tuesday that “A family drama is roiling a key US House race.”
Peter Strozk, who was fired from the FBI today, is best known for sending anti-Donald Trump text messages while working on federal investigations involving Hillary Clinton and the Trump campaign. But Strozk, whose hearing before Congress in July was a circus of partisan tension, has now become a character in another drama: A family feud between Republican lawmaker Bob Goodlatte and his son, Bobby Goodlatte.
Vox reported on the absurdity of the July hearing at the time:
FBI agent Peter Strzok’s testimony before Congress on Thursday [July 12] collapsed into a full-on partisan circus, with Republican and Democratic members shouting at each other, House Judiciary Chair Bob Goodlatte threatening to hold Strzok in contempt, and Democrats staging an over-the-top political stunt.
Upon hearing the news of Strzok’s firing, the younger Goodlatte tweeted out his embarrassment regarding his father’s role in the matter.
“I’m deeply embarrassed that Peter Strzok’s career was ruined by my father’s political grandstanding. That committee hearing was a low point for Congress,” he tweeted, adding the following message to Strzok himself: “Thank you for your service sir. You are a patriot.”

However, this tweet was not the first time the younger Goodlatte spoke out on Twitter.
Rollcall reported last November that Goodlatte announced that he would not be seeking a 14th term in Congress.
“With my time as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee ending in December 2018, this is a natural stepping-off point and an opportunity to begin a new chapter of my career and spend more time with my family, particularly my granddaughters,” the elder Goodlatte said in a statement.
On Sunday, the younger Goodlatte tweeted his support for Jennifer Lewis, a Democrat who is running for his father’s seat in Virginia’s 6th Congressional district.
“I just gave the maximum allowed donation to Jennifer Lewis, a democrat running for my father’s congressional seat. I’ve also gotten 5 other folks to commit to donate the max. 2018 is the year to flip districts — let’s do this!” he tweeted along with a link to Ms Lewis’ website.

He followed up his call for support for Ms. Lewis with another tweet on Monday, linked to his tweet blasting his father for his role in Strzok’s firing.
His tweet asked his followers to “please please donate” to Lewis’ campaign, adding “This is how we show we’re tired of the lack of decorum in Congress.”
Please please please donate to @JenniferForVA.
