Woman Turns To Crowdfunding Site To Raise Money For IUD

ww9The Chattanooga Times Free Press is reporting that Tennessee resident Lauren Kramer doesn’t want a baby and she is asking for your help. Kramer has created a Go Fund Me campaign to raise $800 so that she can afford an IUD.

She writes:

“Long term birth control is expensive. Having a baby is even more expensive. Help me pay for an IUD so that I don’t have to worry about the cost of either of these things.”

As of October 8, she has raised $230

“I would love the money for it,” she said. “Do I necessarily expect to raise the money? I don’t know. If I do, that would be great. It is sort of a statement.”

The TFP reports, “Kramer is passionate about reproductive health. She thinks there’s not enough education about sex and that birth control is often unaffordable or inaccessible. ‘This is an issue that’s very important to me,’ she said.”

Kramer, who had an abortion at the age of 18, is working with a group that is working to bring back an abortion clinic and other types of reproductive clinics to Chattanooga.

“There’s just not access to sexual education here,” she said. “It’s abstinence-only in Tennessee. Growing up, I just didn’t get the sex ed I needed.” Kramer said.

Rachel Schulson, executive director of A Step Ahead Foundation Chattanooga, which was recently founded to help provide women with free long-term birth control said, nearly 900,000 abortions could be avoided each year with the use of long-term contraceptives.

Without missing a beat, Internet trolls took to leaving hateful comments on the article about Kramer on the Chattanooga Times Free Press Facebook page.

Interesting – considering that the free market, the 1st Amendment and a free country are the reason Kramer has the ability to ask for donations – some are so incensed by her campaign, they choose to criticize her and say very nasty things. Can you imagine how much it would IRRITATE the trolls if Kramer reaches her goal? If you would like to help her, visit her campaign and donate HERE.
