Virginia Delegate Mark Cole introduced legislation that would require students attending schools to be fined for failing to adhere to restroom assignments. If a student uses a restroom of the opposite gender, they would face a fine of $50.
How would gender be determined?
The proposed bill, HB663, reads, “anatomical sex, means the physical condition of being male or female, which is determined by a person’s anatomy.”
Cole made this suggestion: Local school boards shall develop and implement policies that require every school restroom, locker room, or shower room that is designated for use by a specific gender to solely be used by individuals whose anatomical sex matches such gender designation. Such policies may also provide that a student may, upon request, be granted access, to the extent reasonable, to a single stall restroom or shower, a unisex bathroom, or controlled individual use of a restroom, locker room, or shower.
Just how does Cole expect to determine gender? Does he believe that all schools hire someone to physically inspect students’ genitalia before entering restrooms? How else would this discriminatory law be enforced?
So what we can take from this piece of creepy legislation is that Mark Cole is a bigot who has nothing better to do with his time than create discriminatory bills targeting the LGBT community.
