In early June Peter Heck, a social studies teacher in Greentown Indiana, gave a controversial speech and pissed off a lot of people who are not knuckle-dragging Neanderthals.
“Ladies, I challenge you to a life of rebellion. To recognize that your body is a temple that is deserving of honor, not indiscretion. I challenge you to be women of virtue, finding beauty, not in how many unprincipled men you can attract, but rather finding beauty in modesty and self-respect. I challenge you to devote yourself to family, to your children.
If you choose to have a career, God’s blessings upon you, but I challenge you to recognize what the world scoffs at…that your greatest role of your life will be that of wife and mother. That the greatest impact you will ever contribute to our world is a loving and devoted investment into the lives of your precious children. To solve the problems plaguing our society, we don’t need more women as CEOs, we need more women as invested mothers.”
He includes this speech of misogyny on his site and introduces it with:
“When I wrote the challenge to the graduating seniors of the Eastern High School class of 2013, I never had any idea that The Today Show, MSNBC, MSN, Yahoo, the Daily Caller, the Huffington Post, and ABC News would care what I said.”
Really Peter? Maybe these same sites might also do stories on me if I were a teacher and I gave a speech saying that men should understand their role in life is not only about how much money they earn as a breadwinner, but the most important aspect of male worthiness is how big their penis is. Width and girth. If a man’s penis is less than 8 x 2.5 inches when it’s erect, he has no real use as a human being and should be castrated in a public forum. Free Monsanto potato chips with a thirty-two-ouncer on Tuesdays.
Perhaps the world would be shocked if a liberal woman said such nonsense, but the fact is we’ve grown accustomed to sorry statements like Heck’s. A small group of religious, conservative morality police think what they say is going to have some kind of magical ability to persuade the majority of Americans to live by these suffocating, ridiculous guidelines. NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN.
It’s the Republican Party who is destroying the middle class and making it even more necessary for both parents to work, but that’s neither here nor there because conservatives believe whatever they want to. Facts have no place in their dictatorship ideals.
Heck was challenged to a debate by Christian feminist Charles Clymer and whaddya’ know? Peter didn’t wanna. He said no. He just wants to make his proclamation, bang on his chest, and run back into his house and shut the door with his fingers in his ears, screaming lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala.
What bothers me most about Heck is the fact he is a teacher and he does teach in the red state of Indiana. So many children are exposed to the Republican lies and hatred on a daily basis, but one would hope it stays out of the classroom.
I hereby nominate Heck to be Lord God King of Bullshit Mountain for 15 minutes and then hopefully, he’ll crawl back under his misogyny rock and STFU.
Women work and they deserve equal pay. End of story.
