Sexual-Assault Measure to Be Cut From Military Bill (VIDEO)

Sexual-Assault Measure

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen discusses the setback of military sex assault legislation and Sen. Carl Levin’s new measure which keep prosecution in chain of command.

Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand (D-NY) had introduced the measure, along with 27 co-sponsors to include 4 Republicans, that would take the authority to decide which sexual assault crimes to try from commanders and put it in the hands of military prosecutors.

Mr. Levin’s measure would change the current system, but would give the military exactly what it wants: control by commanders and not personnel trained in law.

Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) a co-sponsor of Ms. Gillibrand’s bill stated:

“They basically embrace the status quo here. It’s outrageous.”
