‘Modest is Hottest’ Comments By Principal Prompts Epic Student Response

Modest is Hottest

LAKELAND, Fla – A 16-year-old high school student, Marion Mayer, was so offended by her principal’s remarks about the school’s dress code, she opined on her Facebook and Tumblr pages. Her post has gone viral and she is getting support from people all over the world.

Mayer heard from friends that her principal, Arthur Martinez, commented on how girls should dress for school and that girls should go by the rule “modest is hottest,” because “boys will be boys.”

The Huffington Post featured her blog and it’s pretty awesome. Mayer explained that after hearing about her post, Principal Martinez called her into his office to discuss the matter. After arguing about his comments for an hour and a half, she offered to send him her blog if he was interested. He declined and then sent her back to class.

How very nice that he mansplained everything to her. Fortunately this young woman is smart enough to realize this principal is an ill-informed sexist who believes that his pathetic comments were helpful. Evidently, many other folks in the world agree with her.

Some excerpts:

Let’s start with the phrase ‘modest is hottest,’ shall we?

Modest means having or showing a moderate estimation of one’s own talents, abilities and value. If modest is hottest, then it’s not modest.

You are literally sending the message to young girls, who are already struggling with self-confidence, that hiding their body makes them more attractive. You are establishing a sense of shame in these young, developing minds and bodies.

My body is not a sinful temptation that needs to be hidden.
My body is not your personal, sexual object.
My body does not overshadow my character.
My body is not any more sexual than a man’s body.
My body is not here to look ‘hot’ for you.

Next up is his second statement, “boys will be boys.’

Boys are not sexually uncontrollable.
Boys do not have a genetic, animalistic, violent nature.
Boys are not born with a natural desire for destruction or control.

Despite what society and culture keeps trying to cram down everyone’s throat, having a penis doesn’t make it okay to sexually harass someone. The false idea that men can’t control themselves is so unfair and completely ridiculous.
