Erick Erickson, you continually flabbergast me with your hate speech and your complete lack of compassion for humanity.
In your opinion piece for RedState.com, you took a cue from Rick Perry, Caveman Governor, when you compared homosexuality to alcoholism and suggested that people aren’t born gay.
“So, again, fewer and fewer voices are willing to speak up. Those of us who can, should speak up. So I will say it – I largely agree with Governor Rick Perry and appreciate him speaking up.
While most of my generation is pretty accepting of the idea that a person can be born gay, there is no settled science on the matter. There certainly is no settled science on pick your own gender adventures. But to say so is apostasy in this secular world. It really does not matter though. Whether one is born gay or not does not mean God made a person gay. And whether it is the unrepentant alcoholic, homosexual, adulterer, liar, or any of the others the Duck Commander listed, none are going to be saved on the last day without repenting.
Oh Erick, I honestly wonder if maybe you have homosexual thoughts. If you do, it’s really okay.
You see Erick, I, like many human beings who utilize the power of independent thought, have an open mind about people, and I recognize that homosexual individuals don’t choose to be gay. Why would they when people like you exist in the world? People like you are they reason they are discriminated against. People like you are the reason they are beaten and killed. Maybe you aren’t out there beating up gay people, but your words carry weight and your followers take your cues and you know it. You are closely linked with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a group working internationally to help criminalize homosexuality. By suggesting that being gay is criminal activity, you are contributing to violence against people who are not exactly like you – or maybe the ones who are more like you than you care to admit.
So often, the ones who are screaming against something the loudest are the ones who are privately battling those same urges.
If you are not secretly gay, when did you choose to be straight Erick? I didn’t choose my sexuality. I can look at another woman and see that she is sexy or beautiful or a wonderful person but no matter how hard I try, I just don’t get tingly in my area for her. More importantly, I don’t want to share physical affection, like cuddling, with another woman. I simply wasn’t born that way. Homosexuality is not a choice. You don’t have to like it or agree with it, but to compare it to alcoholism, well that’s just absurd. It proves that you are talking out of your ass for some attention. You are not a scientist or a doctor. You’re a blowhard with a blog – BIG DIFFERENCE.
I have to stop here and note one of the things you wrote, because it really does beg more than one question. “Whether one is born gay or not does not mean God made a person gay.” What does that mean? If a person is born gay, then WHO made them that way? Do you “blame” the parents? If so, which one? Or is the fault of both? And if so, why? Is it a punishment on them or on their child, who has done nothing more than be born into a world where people like you are ready to condemn them for merely being who they were born to be? On the other hand, if God is the creator and a person is born gay, then it would follow that it was the intention of God to add to the wondrous diversity that is our universe. Either that or God made a mistake and as you know, THAT ISN’T POSSIBLE because God is God. See how your whole argument just falls apart?
You sir, are attempting to come from a “religious” perspective. More specifically, you are trying to use religion to justify your fear and ignorance. Much like a schoolyard bully who lacks character, you choose to bully and pick on people you don’t like or understand. Or maybe you bully the ones you identify with – like gay people – because you can’t face who you really are. Maybe you allow the other bullies, like Rick Perry, to dictate your belief system, so rather than attempting to behave as Jesus would have, you try to please your bully friends by being a hater.
Erick, did you know that some gay people are not religious, so your threat that they wouldn’t be saved is meaningless to them? How can one fear hell if one doesn’t believe it exists? Moreover, I personally believe people like you are creating the real hell right here on earth because your message incites violence – violence that can and will lead to death. Can you live with that blood on your hands? Or do you, like Pontius Pilot, wash your hands of the whole thing? Blood doesn’t wash off, Erick. Even when it swirls down the drain, it leaves a stain on your soul.
Someone who is so insistent that they know better than anyone is playing God. It is clear Erick, you are no god. You are a weak man who may be so afraid of the gays because the idea of a penis or kissing another man makes your area tingly. Maybe, I really don’t know. Just a guess.
Homosexual behavior occurs in hundreds of species – at least 450 species. So if you really are a man of God, you would behave like Jesus and love all of humanity – not just white straight people who go to church.
Live and love, Erick. Live and love.
