Texas Democrat on Racism: ‘We’re Out & Proud And More Open With It’ (VIDEO)

aacatsRecently, a Texas city council member, Connie Trube, was caught on audio tape blaming a failing school system on “those blacks.”

Field director for the Democratic Party in Fort Bend County Sarah Slamen spoke about it to MSNBC’s Eric Dyson, “Racism isn’t limited to Texas — we’re just more out and proud with it. We just don’t segregate and live apart from each other like they do in the Northeast. In the South, we’re open with it.” She added, “The melanin in people’s skin has nothing to do with why our schools are failing,” and she blamed the state Republican party for that.

Since the inflammatory comments have been made public, Trube has refused to resign and says her remarks are her “honest opinion.” The comments have prompted the rest of the council commission to hold an outside investigation. Slamen claimed such a probe is unnecessary.

“It’s stage dressing to protect all the racists that are around her. I think everyone can look at this situation and see that Connie Trube needs to be out on her butt, immediately. The 13,000 people or so living in La Marque deserve better than Connie Trube.”

Dyson cited the GOP platform for advocating for “reparative therapy” against homosexual behavior and the repeal of the “Voter Rights Act of 1965.”

“They meant to reference the Voting Rights Act,” Dyson said. “The Texas GOP can’t even correctly identify one of the most important pieces of legislation to come out of the civil rights movement. That’s because the Texas GOP doesn’t believe we need protections against racial discrimination. The reality is, racism is alive and well in Texas.”

Sarah Slamen gained national attention in 2013 when she was thrown out of court for her spirited testimony in favor of abortion rights.
