The Irish group LGBT Noise has released a public service announcement mocking homophobia.
Set in 2017, the PSA features a straight couple who fears the passage of marriage equality in Ireland.
“The equality — Ireland was practically unrecognizable. We tried to blend in, but the weddings were unbelievable! I felt completely underdressed and the cakes were amazing. It was at that point it became a question of survival.”
The frightened couple hides in their boarded-up home and acknowledges that the reason marriage equality passed was because of all the straight people who supported it.
“Back in 2015, Ireland had a referendum on marriage equality, so we weren’t one bit worried.” In dramatic fashion they go on to explain how it was friends of gay people, non-gays, who marched and voted for equality.
