Seven-year-old Haily was excited to attend a Halloween party at Walt Disney World and she dressed up as a peacock. She used “Fright Night” eye-shadow and tattoos that were purchased from a Walmart in Harborcreek PA.
48-hours after the party, Haily’s eyes were red and swollen. Her parents took her to an emergency room in Orlando FLA, where doctors examined the young girl and determined she suffered chemical burns that took of a layer of protective skin. The burns were from the temporary tattoos she used as part of her costume. She was treated with antibiotics and steroids.
The packet of temporary tattoos contained no warnings or cautions. All that was printed was a list of dyes that may be in the ingredients.
YourErie.com reported:
“Amy Parente, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Mercyhurst University researched those ingredients with the FDA. As it turns out, four out of nine of the listed dyes were not approved for eye use. They are approved for cosmetics, but not for use around the eyes. Those dyes are Green #3, Red #6 and #7, and Yellow #6.”
They also report that Haily’s eyes are healing and she will meet with a doctor to check for scarring
There is a list of where the tattoos are available on their website frightnightcosmetics.com
