Editors at the The Boston Herald thought it would be so funny to make an offensive and racist joke about President Obama.Just like any good racist publication, after they were accused of racism, BH offered a BS apology saying they never intended to offend anyone.
“Contributors to our Editorial and Opinion pages have the right to express their views, and satire is clearly used in Jerry Holbert’s cartoon today,” the Herald’s Gwen Gage wrote in a statement. “That said, we sincerely regret if we inadvertently offended anyone and extend our sincere apologies.”
Holbert also offered an apology on Boston Herald Radio .
“I had no intention at all of offending anybody,” he said. “I thought this was a very lighthearted cartoon, just suggesting that the guy got as far as the bathtub and he’s recommending a different toothpaste for the president.”
Holbert said he was contacted by the syndicator of the cartoon Tuesday night, asking if he could change the flavor from watermelon to raspberry.
Despite all the apologies, the cartoon remains on the site.
