A clever new website has launched, TipThemLess.org, to shine a light on the fact that even in 2015, women are earning less than men for the same work.
Gabe Whaley of Miscellaneous Mischief told Liberals Unite:
We made the Toothpick tip calculator as a way to bring the issue of the gender wage gap to a context that everyone can understand and relate to . . . tipping. Hopefully it angers people, and makes them realize exactly how grim the situation currently is.”
From the website:
Women and men were not created equal. So why should they be tipped like they are?
Meet Toothpick
A tip calculator that suggests a lower tip when your server is a woman.
It’s OK Because Society Said So.
For some of you, this new standard of tipping may take some getting used to. But here’s the thing. In the United States, women and men are not persons of equal stature. Check the Constitution yourself. In the workplace, on average, women get paid 22% less than their male counterparts.
So tipping a server 22% less just because she is a woman makes total sense, right?

Are you pissed off? If so, consider that Republicans unanimously blocked the Equal Pay bill in 2014.
The site also has a link to a White House petition to demand ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which was never ratified. The ERA would guarantee constitutional protection against gender discrimination.
You might remember there was a White House ERA petition in 2013 which received the required 25k signatures. The White House aknowledged the petition but has done nothing to advance the ERA. The rules have changed and now a petition requires 100k signatures. Let’s keep chipping away and demanding that women are seen as true equals and sign it here.
DEMAND EQUALITY.
