Cue The White Conservative Rage After Michelle Obama Addressed Racism

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a moving and powerful commencement speech to the graduating students at Tuskegee University this past weekend.

African-Americans make up the majority of Tuskegee University students and Mrs. Obama took the opportunity to address the problem of racism in the United States. Not only did she mention it, she pointed out common occurrences felt by too many black Americans:

The world won’t always see you in those caps and gowns.  They won’t know how hard you worked and how much you sacrificed to make it to this day — the countless hours you spent studying to get this diploma, the multiple jobs you worked to pay for school, the times you had to drive home and take care of your grandma, the evenings you gave up to volunteer at a food bank or organize a campus fundraiser.  They don’t know that part of you.

Instead they will make assumptions about who they think you are based on their limited notion of the world.  And my husband and I know how frustrating that experience can be.  We’ve both felt the sting of those daily slights throughout our entire lives — the folks who crossed the street in fear of their safety; the clerks who kept a close eye on us in all those department stores; the people at formal events who assumed we were the “help” — and those who have questioned our intelligence, our honesty, even our love of this country.”

Cue the angry, white conservative freak out.

The Fox “News” crowd can’t STAND it when people (especially black people) call out racism. Ann Coulter spoke with Fox’s Sean Hannity and criticized the First Lady, saying:

I think she’s just letting out her Reverend Wright now.”

Yes, America does owe black America for slavery, for the Democratic policies of Jim Crow. I think we’ve — we’re making it up now, when you’re getting admitted to Princeton when you can’t read, is that enough yet?

This nonsense about the peaceful protesters. No, I want a milk carton for, ‘Has anyone seen a peaceful protester in Baltimore?’ As if work-a-day blacks are rushing out to protest Freddie Gray. No they aren’t.”

All the conservative bloggers scurried to write about it using their very favorite dramatic headline verbs and descriptions (emphasis mine):

The Young Cons’ headline read: “Ann Coulter Completely Annihilates Michelle Obama Over Racist Remarks”

MRCtv: “Ann Coulter Goes Nuclear on Michelle Obama for Race Comments”

And from Red Flag: “COULTER SCOLDS MICHELLE O: BACK OFF THE WHITE GUILT — ‘She’s just letting out her Reverend Wright now'”

DC Gazette: “Careful, Michelle Obama, That Victim Complex Is Showing”

One of the Chicks On The Right used a gentler headline but had this to say:

“Oh please. When you’ve built a career on being a victim, it’s hard to give up that victim status, even when your grievances have been addressed. Repeatedly. So much that crying someone’s a ‘RAAAAACIST!’ is almost a joke now. The majority of Americans are NOT racist and we’re actually quite tired of having to prove it at every turn and moment.”

Right! Michelle Obama has built a career on being a victim. Okay. And monkeys are currently flying OUT OF MY BUTT! The COTR piece went with the all too familiar – but, but, but we have a BLACK president and that means NO MORE RACISM!!!

Of course Rush Limbaugh was unable to resist and claimed Mrs. Obama doubled down on the race card. He’s depressed you guys!! 🙁

Michelle Obama is on a roll. She is playing the race card, she’s doubling down on it, and the reason I didn’t start with this in the first hour, I’ll be real honest with you, is it depresses me.

I also knew, I knew it, I was hoping I was wrong, but I knew Michelle Obama’s running around the campaign saying, “For the first time in my life I’m proud of my country.” You listen to Reverend Wright, you know what these people think, you know what they have been exposed to. You know that they have got a giant chip on their shoulder. And she’s making it plain that she always has had and that it’s getting worse after six, seven years, almost, in the White House, it’s getting worse.”

If you head on over to Twitter, you can see tweets from disappointed white conservatives all over America.

Here’s one of the more popular tweets:

“Articles: Michelle Obama Should Have Read the Founder of Tuskegee University Before She Spoke There … #racebaiter”

The tweet included a link to American Thinker’s popular article which highlighted the words of Booker T Washington from 1911. And they like what he said. Can you guess why?

“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

Hmmmm….

Poor white conservatives.
