The quote reads: “I need feminism because I intend on marrying rich and I can’t do that if my wife and I are making .75 cent for every dollar a man makes.”

According to Huffington Post, Cannon, a is 17-year-old who just graduated from Oak Hills High School in California. She said found the quote on Tumblr and she changed the parts that were written from a man’s perspective.

In an email to Huffpo, Cannon wrote,” I was tired of seeing the same old quotes from popular books and movies and authors, and I wanted to call attention to a problem that women face. I’ve never really been ashamed to say that I am gay, so the LGBT aspect was simply who I am.”

The quote has received a lot of praise, and of course there are many who refuse to accept reality and argue that the wage gap doesn’t exist. For those folks, here’s the proof that is does and yes, I know, facts are meaningless to you.

The White House reports that American women, on average, earn just 77% of what a man does for equal work. African-American and Latina women, earn just 64% and 56%, of every dollar earned by a white man.
