Astonishing: Twice Banished For Abuse, Priest To Head Teen Pregnancy Center

This is #RapeCulture

According to the Detroit Free Press, Kenneth Kaucheck, a Catholic Priest who was banned from two churches for molesting a 16-year-old girl, has been appointed as the director of Gianna House Pregnancy and Parenting Residence in Eastpointe – a teen pregnancy center that counsels pregnant teenagers.

After a 2009 investigation, the Archdiocese of Detroit concluded Kaucheck had sexually abused the teen, whom he was counseling in the 1970s. Prosecutors never filed charges against the priest. They argued the girl was old enough to legally consent. (#RapeCulture).

The center’s website says Kaucheck was chosen to “provide a wide range of ideas and skills.”

According to the paper, “the center takes in teenagers and young women who are pregnant, assisting them and any children they might later have.”

Activists are demanding his removal from the post. David Clohessy, a spokesman from Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP), said, “It’s inexcusable for any nonprofit to hire a credibly accused child molesting cleric. A simple Google search would have shown that Fr. Ken is potentially dangerous and should never be given any position or title that confers respect, much less gives him access to vulnerable people.”

According to the Archdiocese of Detroit Director Joe Kohn, Kaucheck could be removed from his position under Canon law. Kohn said that the “position at Gianna House violates the restrictions placed on his ministry in 2009.” Kohn added, “We assert that he should not be allowed to continue in this position.”
