President Elect Trump appeared on 60 Minutes last night and told Leslie Stahl that he’ll appoint “pro-life” Supreme Court Justices, Roe v. Wade will be repealed, abortion will be left up to the states, and women who want to terminate an unwanted pregnancy will have to travel to another state where abortion is legal.
In 2015, a survey was conducted by the Christian research group LifeWay, and the focus was on the demographics of abortion when it pertains to religion. Not surprisingly, the survey — which was co-sponsored by Care Net — found that 7 in 10 Christian women chose abortion. This nationally balanced sample was screened to only include those women who indicated that they had ever had a pregnancy termination/abortion medical procedure.
Some of the findings:
- 70 percent of the women they surveyed identified as Christians.
- 23 percent of Christian women who have had an abortion consider themselves evangelical Christians.
- Over one third of the women surveyed attend a church once a week or more.
- Over half of the women who attend church regularly have kept their terminated pregnancy secret from their church community.
And check this out – the survey found the majority of Christian women who chose abortion did so ON THE INFLUENCE AND ADVICE OF THE FATHER of the unborn fetus, and that was followed by the influence of their medical providers.
Translation: Christian MEN were a part of the decision process.
The survey of 1038 people also found that only 7 percent said they discussed their decision to abort with anyone at their church; and furthermore, twice as many women would not recommend to someone they’re close with to discuss the option of abortion with fellow church members.
Translation: Christian women have abortions but if they talk about it with Christian friends, they are vilified. That is the definition of hypocrisy, and it stems from the fact that 64 percent of those surveyed agreed that church members are more likely to negatively gossip about someone who’s considering abortion rather than help her understand what all the options are.
Donald Trump and Mike Pence have made it clear they want to ban abortion. If they move forward with this action, there will be hell to pay. These men are failing to acknowledge that they aren’t dealing with a third-world country where citizens are easily led, because they’ve never experienced real freedom. American women have enjoyed reproductive freedom for decades, and there is no way in hell we’re going to silently stand by and watch patriarchal misogynists return us to back-alley abortions.
