Take a break from politics and stroll down memory lane.
Saturday morning in the 1970s was a HUGE deal when I was a kid.
Waking up before my parents, fixing a bowl of sugary cereal and hunkering down in front of the television to watch hours of programming was an essential part of my young life.
The other night I happened upon this compilation (below), and because it’s just over 30 minutes long, I figured I’d watch a few minutes and save the rest for another time. But, once I started watching, I couldn’t stop. Aside from being reminded of some of my favorite shows I’d completely forgotten about, the video also included some of the more memorable commercials – “Leggo my Eggo,” “Pretty sneaky, Sis,” and “He likes it! Hey, Mikey!” Remember those?
Watching it was a literal blast from my past. I must admit that while I enjoyed the nostalgic aspect, I was also a bit verklempt because there was a simplicity that no longer exists. As a friend once said to me, “We’re the last generation that can remember being kids, sitting on grass with nothing more than a stick and being happy about it.”
