Ever since the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released their series of deceptively edited videos depicting Planned Parenthood officials discussing the legal practice of the sale of aborted fetal tissue, hypocritical “pro-life” activists have ramped up their deadly crusade to abolish family planning clinics across the country.
The New England Journal of Medicine released an editorial discrediting the CMP videos and came out in support of Planned Parenthood for “its effort to to channel fetal tissue into important medical research but also for its other work as one of the country’s largest providers of health care for women, especially poor women.” The article concluded, “It is shameful that a radical anti-choice group whose goal is the destruction of Planned Parenthood continues to twist the facts to achieve its ends.”
Despite the fact that investigations into Planned Parenthood’s selling of fetal tissue conclude there was no evidence of wrongdoing, “pro-life” activists have taken it upon themselves to use deadly methods of terrorism in an effort to force their hypocritical agenda.
Since the Supreme Court decided a woman may legally terminate her pregnancy in the early 1970s, abortion providers from coast to coast have been targets for the people who claim to value life at the moment of conception. Clinics have been bombed and set ablaze, and doctors have been murdered. Most recently, an investigation into a Planned Parenthood clinic fire in Pullman, Washington was declared by authorities as an act of arson.
Fox Nation posted a warning from an individual who goes by the name “Joseywhales” against the senior director of Planned Parenthood named in the CMP video:
“I’ll pay ten large to whomever kills Dr. Deborah Nucatola. Anyone. Go for it.”
According to a legal complaint filed by the National Abortion Federation (NAF) in a California district court, Joseywhales also threatened Cate Dyer, the CEO of StemExpress, a biomedicine company that procures fetal tissue for medical research:
“The CEO of StemExpress should be hung by the neck using piano wire and propped up on the lawn in front of the building with a note attached.”
Additionally, the crazed religious zealots are showing up in large numbers outside of doctor’s homes. Conservatives across the country are commenting on anti-choice sites and other online forums, and they’re calling for bombings and murders.
Abortion doctor George Tiller was violently attacked multiple times before a “pro-lifer” shot him in the head while attending church in 2009. In 1998, Dr. Barnett Slepian was killed in his home after returning from synagogue.
Statistics gathered by the National Abortion Federation since 1977 reveal a very disturbing reality regarding violent acts and threats against abortion providers in the United States and Canada: 41 bombings, 100 butyric acid attacks, 17 attempted murders, 153 incidents of assault or battery, 383 death threats, 13 wounded 373 physical invasions, 655 anthrax threats. “Pro-life” Republican lawmakers are in favor of the death penalty and decry the crime rate, yet they fight to keep unregulated gun sales. They’re battling to abolish the gains made in providing healthcare to American citizens and refusing to fund public assistance programs for impoverished families with children. Hardly pro-life.
There will always be people who don’t believe abortion should be legal, but the extremists who claim to be “pro-life” are not murdering doctors and committing arson because they truly believe in the sanctity of life. They are criminals with severe mental disabilities and/or the most extreme examples of hypocrisy. They aren’t interested in life. They’re interested in control – specifically taking power away from women to make decisions about their own bodies. They want to turn America into their twisted version of a Christian nation where their interpretation of God’s law trumps the Constitution and women have no rights.
