The Brothers Koch have made their billions in oil. They are using their money to buy the American government. While they have experienced success in dividing the Republican Party by inserting Tea Party politicians into state elections, the millions they sunk into the 2012 presidential election failed to produce a conservative victory.
MSNBCs All In with Chris Hayes covered another one of their humiliating failures in a segment on his show. In the Koch’s home state of Kansas – a bright red, conservative state – Republican mayor of Greensburg, Bob Dixson, successfully implemented the use of wind energy after the town was destroyed by a massive tornado in 2007.
“One hundred percent of the consumption of the city of Greensburg is from alternative energy, the wind,” Dixson explained. He went on to explain that going green made sense to him as a Republican. He said that the idea of green energy was not initially embraced by rural America and thought of as “political” and “left wing.” Dixson said it’s not about right or left, it’s about “our issue to leave a legacy for future generations.”
The Koch’s are fighting a losing battle despite their efforts to lie to Kansas residents about the high cost of green energy. Eliminating the renewable energy sources that are already in place would result in a loss of jobs and income for many families.
Rural America better wake up and realize America has always been progressive. It is now time to move to cleaner energy solutions. We used to use candle light and we have progressed to light bulbs. We used to use rotary phones and we have progressed to wireless and cell phones. Stubbornly clinging to old ideas that damage the environment is not the answer. The real question is: How long will the Koch’s influence successfully convince conservatives that dirty oil and dark money are the right thing for America?
