Queen Anti-Feminist Phyllis Schalfly is back on the scene and this time, she’s warning Republicans they shouldn’t fall for the idea that gay marriage is the “wave of the future,” and that the GOP should look for candidates who will not “be swept along in the gay tide.”
On her weekly Eagle Forum broadcast, Schlafly speaks out against the notion that marriage equality is inevitable – despite the fact that a 2014 Gallup poll shows an all-time high with 55% in support. She blames popularity on “supremacist judges.”
“If you get your news from the mainstream media, you may believe that the adoption of gay marriage is the wave of the future, that its momentum is so strong that it is unbeatable. But not so fast. That may not be true at all. All this so-called momentum is created by supremacist judges who are trying to impose their left-wing bias even on states where the voters have passed a referendum putting only traditional husband-wife marriage into their state constitution,” says Schlafly.
A poll conducted by Wilson Research Strategies, found that 82% of the Republican base ( including right-leaning independent voters) defined marriage as between a man and a woman, while 75% disagreed that politicians should be seeking to “redefine marriage.” Those numbers are illustrative of a disconnect in the reasoning ability of those surveyed.
Schlafly, whose son came out as a homosexual in 1992, urged the GOP to seek out candidates who agree with her about marriage:
“It is unfortunate if marriage becomes a political issue between Republicans and Democrats, but it does look as if politics is going that way. We are looking for candidates who will defend marriage and not be swept along in the gay tide.”
Schlafly pushed the idea that the Republican Party “punished” the Nevada GOP by denying them the 2016 national Republican convention because they dropped traditional marriage from their state platform. However, contradicting Schlafly’s claim, Republican National Committee officials reported that Vegas sent a letter withdrawing their bid for the national convention based on our criteria for the arena facility and enough onside prep time. Cincinnati did as well.” The convention was awarded to Cleveland Ohio.
