Todd Akin Compares Himself To Joe McCarthy And Says He Was Assassinated by The Liberal Media

20140627_141551Todd Akin (R-MO) (otherwise known as Mr. Legitimate Rape) is back on the scene and has recently rescinded his apology for saying women’s bodies have the ability to naturally shut down a rape pregnancy.

He’s now doubling-down on the crazy talk.

In a 15-minute phone interview with the St. Louis Dispatch, the former congressman compared himself to Senator Joe McCarthy (R-WI). McCarthy launched a paranoid Communist witch hunt in the 1950s.  He was eventually called out by his own party in a series of hearings. The Senate voted to condemn him for his “inexcusable,” “reprehensible,” “vulgar and insulting” conduct “unbecoming a senator.” He remained a senator but lost his power.

Akin said that McCarthy was another victim “assassinated by the media.”

“I use McCarthy as an example of someone who was assassinated by the media, so he had no credibility,” Akin told the Dispatch. Akin compared his own experience with McCarthy’s for what he feels were “intentional and dishonest” misreadings of his reply to a question about allowing abortions in the case of rape or incest in 2012. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”

After his asinine rape comments, the Republican Party distanced itself from Akin, even though number of Republicans continued to fund him and still continue making baseless, moronic comments about sexual assault.

In Akin’s new book “Firing Back: Taking on the Party Bosses and Media Elite to Protect Our Faith and Freedom,” he argues that the “liberal media” and certain conservatives ganged up on him in an effort to destroy his campaign.

Akin told the Dispatch, “It wasn’t that the Republican Party left me wounded on the battlefield. They came out on the battlefield and tried to dispatch me.”
