Are you a mindless robot?
I’m going to make a sweeping generalization and guess that you don’t want to be referred to as a “bot.” Who could blame you? A bot is a mindless robot. A political bot only follows a certain candidate because they’re programmed to do so. Yet day after day, progressives hurl that word at each other. And worse, they do it while Donald F***ing Trump is probably going to win the Republican nomination – and Donald Trump might win. Donald Trump or Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio could be the next president nominating justices on the Supreme Court. Oh, but you’re a badass because you called someone a bot. Does it make you feel superior? Because if it does, you need to know it makes you look like a giant a**hole.
Godwin wrote that if a political debate goes on long enough, someone will eventually accuse the other of being a “Nazi” or similar to “Hitler.” The debater who goes there automatically forfeits the debate. In this case: anyone who resorts to the “bot” insult automatically loses.
If you’re guilty of calling another progressive a bot because they have engaged in the political process and made an informed decision that you don’t agree with, shame on you. I don’t care how passionate you are. If you behave like a child, you deserve to be shamed and scolded.
My vote in the Democratic primary elections will go to Senator Bernie Sanders – not because I’m a bot, but because I have researched his career and I’ve concluded that he’s the best person to run the executive branch. A very close friend and colleague of mine will be voting for Hillary Clinton in the primaries. We don’t call each other bots. We do, however, discuss the issues and we respect each other’s opinions.
History dictates that even though the 2016 presidential election will see more voters than the dismal 2014 midterms, too many potential voters aren’t paying any attention. And as we move closer and closer to what will eventually become our fate as a country, calling each other names serves what purpose? It serves the Republican Party. It serves Donald Trump. It serves more inequality, racism and poverty.
Vote for your candidate. Realize that your opinion is just that – yours. Other people may feel differently than you and if you don’t like it, go in the corner and take a time out before you resume hurling names at other voters. Is it really worth it? Will you change minds with name calling? No. Because you’re acting like a spoiled brat and everyone can see it. Shame on you. Get over yourself and grow up.
